Central Institutions

The central institutions of the degree Bioinformatics are the departments Mathematics and Computer Science (MI) and Biology, Chemistry, and Pharmacy (BCP) at the Freie Universität together with the Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin. Additionally there are several external collaboration partners that contribute one or two research groups.

This way more than a dozen research groups are involved in teaching in the bachelor's and master's course Bioinformatics, being active in regional as well as international research. And their number is growing with new professors being appointed and new collaborations being set up.

In 2013 the Institute of Bioinformatics was established which consists of professors and research groups from the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science (MI).

A list of professors involved in teaching Bioinformatics links to their respective research homepages. Most important research fields are: biodiversity and evolution, medical bioinformatics, network analysis, physiology, sequence analysis and structural bioinformatics. An overview of the general research areas and the professors involved is given in the next few pages.
