Research at Freie Universität Berlin

FUB Biochemistry is part of the Institute of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the Department Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacy. FUB Biochemistry is currently home to ten research groups focusing on Membrane Trafficking (Bottanelli Lab), mRNA Metabolism (Chakrabarti Lab), Membrane Biochemistry (Ewers Lab), Protein Biochemistry (Freund Lab), RNA Biochemistry (Heyd Lab), Signal Transduction (Knaus Lab), Biochemistry of Viruses (Neu Lab), Cellular Biochemistry (Stauber Lab), Biochemistry and Genetics (Stricker Lab) and Structural Biochemistry (Wahl Lab). Apart from many contacts within their own institute, FUB Biochemistry faculty members also have close ties to research groups in the Institute of Biology, Institute of Pharmacy, the Department of Physics and the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. You can attend many lectures that are offered by faculty at these other institutes and departments, in particular at the Institute of Biology, where faculty members reserve several slots for Biochemistry Master students in Methods Modules each semester.

There are several research groups at the Department of Biochemistry focusing on different scientific questions and using various techniques.
