Outlook: Master's programs

Freie Universität Berlin offers a wide range of MA programs in all disciplines that deepen and complement the knowledge and skills you have gained during your undergraduate studies. A master’s degree paves the way for a career in leadership positions. It can also be an entry to an academic career, since a master’s degree is usually a prerequisite for a subsequent doctorate.

How does a Master's Program look like?

There are two different types of MA programs:

Your previously acquired BA degree serves as the foundation of a consecutive MA program. The skills and knowledge from your undergraduate studies are the basis for further research and training in your respective discipline.

A continuing education MA program requires both an undergraduate degree and first professional experience. Your practical experience is put into relation to theoretical theories and concepts to add to your professional expertise.

The standard duration of MA programs is between two and four semesters. Depending on the respective discipline, graduates are awarded a Master of Arts (M.A.) or a Master of Science (M.Sc.).
